As a student at the University of Lille, you have the opportunity to take part in an international mobility program - study or internship - during your studies. Find out all you need to know in order to choose your mobility.
Going abroad doesn't have to mean flying and pollution. Numerous tools have been designed to help you measure your environmental impact in advance, so you can prepare for your trip in an eco-responsible way.
An Erasmus+ Green Mobility offers a unique opportunity to combine education, civic engagement, personal and professional development, and respect for the environment. It will enable you to acquire valuable skills for your future without burdening your footprint.
Don't know how? Follow the guide!
Choosing to take part in Green Mobility opens up a wide range of opportunities for you, both personally and professionally:
- Reduce your footprint : by going on a Green Mobility trip, you're choosing to help reduce your environmental footprint and take action on a personal scale.
- Civic involvement : taking part in a Green Mobility program is an opportunity to put your knowledge of the environment and sustainable development into practice. This can include field projects, internships with environmental organizations, and community outreach activities.
- Curriculum enhancement : Green mobility experience is a major asset on your resumé, as it demonstrates your commitment to ecological values, your ability to work in an international context, and your development of practical sustainability skills.
- Financial supplement: if you choose to travel using an environmentally-friendly means of transport, you can obtain a financial supplement. More information in “Financial aid”.
Plan your trip
When it comes to green mobility, it's important to bear in mind that the gestures and actions you take to help the climate in France may not be exactly the same abroad. So don't hesitate to check out the websites of the ministries in your host country.
Most universities around the world are committed to sustainable development and social responsibility. Don't hesitate to check out your host university's website, where you'll find information on what they're doing and how you can contribute in your own way.
You can also use the Checklist drawn up by the Council of Europe for mobile students to get ready for your Green Mobility.
How do you travel to your host country?
Favor eco-responsible means of transport.
There are several ways to do this:
- Train: Lille is at the crossroads of North-West Europe, and many destinations are accessible by train. Sometimes faster than flying, it's more economical, allows you to carry more suitcases and, above all, to see more beautiful landscapes. Consult the interactive map to find out about the advantages of train travel over air travel and the destinations that are easily accessible by train.
- Bus: this is the best option if you want to enjoy beautiful scenery while taking care of your wallet. European countries are very well served by bus, so make the most of it!
- Carpooling : this is a great option if you want to meet new people along the way. You'll probably have the opportunity to speak a foreign language during your trip, so you'll be linguistically prepared to immerse yourself in the language of your host country!
- Cycling: and of course, for the more courageous, you can choose to travel by bike. During your trip, you'll have the chance to enjoy magnificent landscapes and realize just how far apart countries are. You'll be able to take advantage of the many European cycle routes to take you all over Europe. So saddle up!
Don't forget to check with your degree program's International Relations department to find out what you need to do to apply for international mobility.
To encourage eco-responsible travel, under the Erasmus+ program it is possible to receive a financial ecotransport supplement in addition to your Erasmus+ grant.
For all Erasmus+ mobility during the 2024/25 year, as part of an Erasmus+ mobility program, the eco-responsible means of transport allowance (a higher allowance than the standard means of transport allowance) will be awarded to students who have made their outward and return journeys between France and the host country at the start and end of the mobility program, on presentation of official proof of outward and return transport (tickets, etc.) to be provided at the end of the mobility program.
ECO RESPONSABLE transportation allowance depending on the distance between Lille and the host city:
10 to 99 km : 56 €
100 to 499 km : 285 €
500 to 1 999 km : 417 €

Une fois sur place, tes choix et comportements peuvent avoir un impact sur l'environnement. Voici quelques conseils à adopter pendant ta mobilité :
Every day, take action
There are many ways to lead a more eco-responsible daily life by adopting actions to reduce your environmental footprint:
- Reduce, reuse and recycle: follow this basic rule to reduce your waste
- Save energy: turn off lights and electronics when you're not using them
- Sustainable transport: choose eco-responsible means of transport in your daily life (metro, bus, bike, walking).
Green travel
- Ecotourism: connect with nature and the local population through sustainable tourism.
- Slow tourism: slow down and linger in certain places instead of trying to visit every European capital in seven days. You'll appreciate the local and cultural life all the more
- Stay local: travel within your host country or to neighboring countries, using public transport (train, bus, coach). You'll travel more cheaply and become a geographical expert in the area!
