A European network committed to academic exchange and international cooperation

Founded in 1987, the Utrecht Network is a long-standing European university network that promotes internationalisation in higher education. It brings together more than 30 institutions committed to fostering mobility, joint learning, and global engagement.

The network plays a key role in strengthening cooperation within the Erasmus+ framework and beyond. It encourages the exchange of ideas and good practices among international offices and academic communities.

Main Activities

Mobility Opportunities

Facilitating student and staff exchanges
The Utrecht Network supports Erasmus+ mobility between its members and offers global exchange options through partner networks like MAUI (USA), AEN (Australia), and REARI-RJ (Brazil).

Joint Programmes & Training

Collaborative learning initiatives
The network promotes the development of joint programmes, blended intensive programmes (BIPs), and summer schools, while encouraging shared approaches to curriculum design and teaching innovation.

Thematic Working Groups

Connecting expertise across institutions
Task forces focus on strategic topics such as student services, internationalisation of the curriculum, staff mobility, joint degrees, and research collaboration, enabling members to co-develop resources and projects.

Annual Meetings & Events

Exchanging ideas and building strategy
Members gather each year at the Spring General Meeting and participate in webinars and thematic workshops to share good practices and align international strategies.

The University of Lille’s Engagement

The University of Lille has been a member of the Utrecht Network since 2003. While not currently involved in task force coordination, the university takes part in general assemblies and contributes to shared discussions on internationalisation practices.

Participation in the network supports Lille’s Erasmus+ mobility partnerships and offers opportunities for peer exchange with other member institutions, particularly on topics related to student services, programme development and academic cooperation.

The Utrecht Network also provides Lille with extended global outreach through its links with MAUI, AEN, and REARI-RJ, reinforcing the university’s broader international strategy.
