The University of Lille is pleased to invite you to its Staff Week

Sustainability and Well-being in International Mobilities
The Direction of International Mobility from Université de Lille, France invites colleagues from partner universities to participate in our upcoming Staff Week Lille – Sustainability and Well-being in International Mobilities. The event will be held in Lille from 23rd to 27th of June, 2025.
In an increasingly interconnected world, international mobilities, encompassing student exchanges, global internships, and diverse cultural immersion programs, stand as vital bridges connecting individuals and communities across borders. These experiences offer unparalleled opportunities for personal growth, cultural exchange, and global understanding. Yet, as we embrace the transformative power of international mobility, we must confront the imperative to ensure these ventures are not only enriching for participants but also sustainable for our planet and supportive of individual well-being. This event seeks to delve into the intricate relationship between sustainability and well-being within the realm of international mobilities, exploring how we can cultivate experiences that are both impactful and responsible.
We're excited to share insights we've gathered on these crucial questions, but more importantly, we want to hear from you. This event is a collaborative space where we'll explore the 'how' together, exchanging best practices and lived experiences to build a shared understanding.
Our objectives
The urgency of integrating sustainable development into international mobilities stems from a clear and present need. As global citizens, we are acutely aware of the environmental challenges facing our planet. International travel, while enriching, contributes to carbon emissions and resource depletion. Sustainable practices are not merely optional; theyy are essential for ensuring the long-term viability of these programs. By prioritizing low-carbon travel, eco-friendly accommodation, and mindful consumption, we can mitigate our ecological footprint and demonstrate a commitment to responsible global engagement.
Moreover, sustaianable development considerations are integral to supporting the overall well-being of international students. A healthy environment, both physically and socially, is conducive to mental and emotional resilience. Inclusive communities, access to nature, and opportunities for meaningful engagement contribute to a sense of belonging and purpose, which are critical for navigating the challenges of international mobility. By integrating sustainability into program design, we create environments that support the holistic well-being of participants.
The association of mental health and sustainability is not merely a theoretical construct; it is a reflection of the interconnectedness of human well-being and planetary health. In a world grappling with environmental crises, fostering a sense of responsibility and agency is crucial for mental resilience. By engaging students in sustainability initiatives, we empower them to become agents of positive change, reducing feelings of helplessness and cultivating a sense of hope.
